Japan Data Centre Migration Project – Server and Storage Engineer

Our client (a multinational insurance company) is looking for a Server and Storage Engineer to join their team (through EIRE Systems), to undertake the planning and migration of the Japan data centre to Singapore.

• Server and storage engineer to undertake the planning and migration of the Japan data centre to Singapore.
This project has 2 phases, the first the replication of the production Japan environment to Singapore to build and test a disaster recovery capability, phase 2 is the migration of Japan production to Singapore.
• The total environment to be built and migrated is approximately 200 servers, from a DELL environment in Japan to a Cisco/IBM environment in Singapore. The majority of servers are virtual with a small number of physical hosts that will be required to be provisioned in Singapore. No hardware will be moved from Japan to Singapore. The engineer needs to have demonstrable experience in projects of a similar size and complexity.
• The appointee is required to be technically literate in the requisite server and storage technologies, a self starter and to have had relevant prior project experience. Term
 • Contract – 12 months

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain servers and storage systems to support home office and field
• Convert systems from physical to virtual in a converged and/or hyper-converged environment
• Proactively ensure the highest level of system and infrastructure availability
• Create and maintain documentation for Japan system environments including Singapore hosted services • Develop disaster recovery invocation run books for all Singapore hosted Japan systems
• Develop and document migration plans for clustered environments
• Monitor and test application and server performance for potential bottlenecks and identify possible solutions
• Maintain security, backup and redundancy strategies
• Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
• In conjunction with operations and project teams identify and manage to resolution all project risks and issues
• Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
• Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for system designs and problem resolution
• Adhering to agreed schedules and meeting deadlines
• Perform other duties as directed by the Japan Data Centre Project Manager

Required Skills and Experience:
• Expertise with Windows Server Virtualization, Active Directory, DNS and other Microsoft technologies
• Expertise with server OS including Windows, Linux and VMware
• Expertise with Storage technologies such as NAS, SAN, iSCSI, storage fabric, etc
• Expertise with replication techniques such as vSphere, Zerto, database mirroring etc
• Working knowledge of database – SQL, Sybase, Oracle, DB2
• Compliance with company procedures and standards
• Excellent knowledge about all aspects of information technology in complex infrastructure environments
• Excellent analytical and observation skills
• Excellent Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Visio and Powerpoint skills
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Excellent planning and organization ability
• Excellent time management skills
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving abilities
• Bi-lingual English and Japanese
• At least 5 years’ experience in a similar environment
• At least 5 years’ experience in managing mid to large scale IT infrastructure projects

IT education and qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or information technology preferred
• Relevant industry recognised certification preferred, eg MCSE, VCP or equivalent
• Demonstrable relevant experience in lieu of formal qualifications
