Japan Data Centre Migration Project – DBA

Position
  • DBA to undertake the planning and migration of the Japan data centre to Singapore. This project has 2 phases, the first the replication of the production Japan environment to Singapore to build and test a disaster recovery capability, phase 2 is the migration of Japan production to Singapore.
  • The total environment to be built and migrated is approximately 160 servers including 30 database servers supporting Oracle, SQL, Sybase and DB2, from a DELL environment in Japan to a Cisco/IBM environment in Singapore. The majority of servers are virtual with a small number of physical hosts that will be required to be virtualised in Singapore. No hardware will be moved from Japan to Singapore. The DBA needs to have demonstrable experience in projects of a similar size and complexity.
  • The appointee is required to be technically literate in the requisite server and storage technologies, a self starter and to have had relevant prior project experience.


Term
  • Contract – 12 months


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Proactively ensure the highest level of system and infrastructure availability
  • Create and maintain documentation for Japan system environments including Singapore hosted services
  • Develop disaster recovery invocation run books for all Singapore hosted Japan systems
  • Develop and implement database replication strategies for existing implementations
  • Create migration plans for upgrade of existing databases to latest versions of operating systems and databases
  • Create and document replication strategies for Oracle RAC environments
  • Develop and enforce Chubb database standards, guidelines and operational policies and procedures
  • Review performance, maintenance and utilities associated with each database structure (i.e., REORGS, LOAD, UNLOADS)
  • Design storage media requirements
  • Review backup & recovery strategies
  • Review, where required, the purge/archive criteria
  • Monitoring and documenting database/subsystem performance issues
  • Create and document migration and test plans
  • In conjunction with operations and project teams identify and manage to resolution all project risks and issues
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for system designs and problem resolution
  • Adhering to agreed schedules and meeting deadlines
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Japan Data Centre Project Manager


Required Skills and Experience:
  • Expertise with these database systems - SQL, Sybase, Oracle, DB2
  • Expertise with data recovery techniques and technologies
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Windows Server Virtualization, Active Directory, DNS and other Microsoft technologies
    • Server OS including Windows, Linux and VMware
    • Storage technologies such as NAS, SAN, iSCSI, storage fabric, etc
    • Replication techniques such as vSphere, Zerto, database mirroring etc
  • Compliance with company procedures and standards
  • Excellent knowledge about all aspects of information technology in complex infrastructure environments
  • Excellent analytical and observation skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Visio and Powerpoint skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organization ability
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving abilities
  • Bi-lingual English and Japanese
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar environment
  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing mid to large scale IT infrastructure projects


IT education and qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or information technology preferred
  • Relevant industry recognised certification preferred eg Oracle, Microsoft, Sybase, IBM
  • Demonstrable relevant experience in lieu of formal qualifications
